Fatehpur Sikri
The fortress was built between 1570 and 1573 by King Akbar, who made it his new capital, relocating the seats of power from Agra to the hill where the Sufi Sheikh Salim Chishti lived. A grand mausoleum was erected in his honour in the mosque’s courtyard. Fatehpur Sikri, renowned for its superb red sandstone architecture, means “City of Victory” and is the setting for The Enchantress of Florence.
