Nicknamed the Pink City due to the colour of its palaces, Jaipur houses some of the most exquisite royal halls in all of India. The suspended atmospheres of this city, founded in 1727 and named capital of Rajasthan in 1949, are reflected in a heritage deeply rooted in the architecture of the City Palace, in popular traditions such as the elephants descending from Amber Fort at dawn, and in the daily ritual of collecting rainwater from the Panna Meena ka Kund stepwell.
